What is the Jubilee Year?

The Catholic Church’s Holy Year, or Jubilee, occurs once every 25 years and offers the faithful a unique opportunity for spiritual renewal. It is a time to visit holy sites, perform works of mercy, and receive the gift of a plenary indulgence. The Jubilee began on December 24, 2024, when Pope Francis opened the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, symbolizing Christ as the door to salvation.
The theme for this Jubilee—“Pilgrims of Hope”—calls us to bring peace and compassion to a world marked by war and ecological challenges. The Holy Year follows 2024’s Year of Prayer, a preparatory period Pope Francis described as an invitation to reflect on God’s presence in our lives and embrace the Catholic vocation with renewed fervor.

Pope Francis reminds us: “Every Christian is a missionary to the extent that he or she has encountered the love of God in Christ Jesus.” (Evangelii Gaudium, 120). Seeing the role missionaries play in spreading the Gospel, Pope Francis has decided to dedicate the weekend of October 4-5 to them. As a spiritual and material supporter of their ministry, we thought you would appreciate the opportunity to encounter them in the Eternal City.

Join the Pilgrimage to Rome in October 2025, led by Monsignor Roger Landry, National Director of The Pontifical Mission Societies USA, to experience the spiritual graces of this Holy Year. Walk through the Holy Doors, pray at the heart of the Church, and renew your missionary spirit as pilgrims of hope, sent to transform the world in Christ’s name.

Dear Friends,

I would personally like to invite you, your family, and your friends to join us on this Jubilee pilgrimage to two of Italy’s greatest cities and special places dear to Christian hearts! We’ll arrive in Rome as “Pilgrims of Hope” and enjoy special Jubilee programming for the Jubilee of Missions, including Mass in the Grotto of St. Peter near his tomb. We will enter through the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica and the other Papal Basilicas of Rome to try to receive plenary indulgences.

Our group will visit the relics of St. Francis Xavier, Patron of the Missions. We’ll journey to Assisi, where we’ll follow in the footsteps of St. Francis, St. Clare and Saint Carlo Acutis. We’ll enjoy beautiful Castelli Romani in the Lazio region and visit Castel Gandolfo, the summer residence of the pope. We will attend together the Holy Father’s General Audience. Best of all, we will be celebrating our faith, forming deeper bonds of friendship, and enjoying the food and customs of another culture. There is nothing like sharing such experiences with friends and family in faith. Please consider joining us!
