Help Make 70,000 Rosaries
for the Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

On September 24 in St. Louis, the Church will honor one of the greatest evangelists in American history. Before the Mass begins, tens of thousands will gather to pray the World Mission Rosary

The challenge is real. More than 70,000 rosaries are needed. There is no supply at that scale, and even limited inventory quickly becomes cost prohibitive.

We need your help.

Whether you make 100 or 1,000, every rosary becomes part of something larger. Each one will be blessed before the Beatification. Each one will continue to be prayed long after that day is over.

The World Mission Rosary

The World Mission Rosary was designed by Archbishop Sheen 75 years ago this year, in 1951, at the beginning of his tenure as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. It was a concrete way to help everyone pray to Our Lady, Queen of Apostles, for the success of the Church’s missionary efforts across the world. Each decade of the World Mission Rosary represents a different area of the world where missionaries connue to share the Good News of Jesus.

GREEN symbolizes the forests and grasslands of AFRICA. BLUE is for the ocean surrounding the ISLANDS OF THE PACIFIC. WHITE symbolizes EUROPE , home of the Holy Father, shepherd of the world; RED shows the fire of faith that brought the first missionaries to the AMERICAS, and YELLOW, is for the morning light of the East, symbolizing ASIA. To pray the World Mission Rosary, reflect on each area of the world according to the particular color described above at the time you announce each Mystery.

Ordering Supplies

The overall cost of supplies for 1,000 Rosaries would be around $259 plus the inexpensive knotting tools and shipping from. Please adjust the supplies up or down depending upon how many you can make.

You will need (per 1,000 Rosaries) from www.rosarymakingparts.com:

  • 20 bags of 6x9 mm Green Plastic Mission Beads ($1.20/bag, or $24 for 1200)
  • 20 bags of 6x9 mm Red Plastic Mission Beads ($1.20/bag, or $24 for 1200)
  • 20 bags of 6x9 mm White Plastic Mission Beads ($1.20/bag, or $24 for 1200)
  • 20 bags of 6x9 mm Yellow Plastic Mission Beads ($1.20/bag, or $24 for 1200)
  • 20 bags of 6x9 mm Royal Blue Plastic Mission Beads ($1.20/bag, or $24 for 1200)
  • 20 bags of the White Plastic Mission Crucifix ($25/1000)
  • 20 bags of the White Plastic Mission Center ($19/1000)
  • 2 spools of the #7 Bonded White Nylon Twine-Cord ($46.50 for 1,600 beaded rosaries)
  • 5 bags of the 3/16 inch White Nylon Spacers ($48.50/30,000 spacers)
  • One Cord Rosary Knotting Tool for each volunteer (optional) ($0.30/tool)

How to Make a World Mission Rosary:

  • Cut cord to arm’s length, tie one end to the plastic crucifix. It helps to dip the other end in nail polish — or burn with a lighter — to avoid fraying.
  • String the first 9 beads and spacers in the order shown. Thread the cord through the bottom-hole of the centerpiece and up through the top left hole. Continue adding beads/spacers as shown. Once finished, string the cord through the top right hole of the centerpiece. Triple knot the end or use the rosary knotting tool to tie a knot. Instructions are posted on the OLRM.org website.
  • Group the rosaries in batches of 25 and tie a rubber band around the bottom of the cross to keep from tangling.
